KL Rahul 'Fit And Available' For Selection In Asia Cup 2023: Report
While a recent report had suggested that KL Rahul could be ruled out of Asia Cup 2023, in a fresh development it is being learnt that the wicketkeeper-batter is "fit and available" for selection.
In what could be a big boost to Team India ahead of their Asia Cup and ODI World Cup campaign later this year, senior batter KL Rahul has reportedly recovered from his injury. While a recent PTI report had suggested that Rahul is all but ruled out of Asia Cup set to begin on August 30, a fresh media report suggests that he has recovered from his thigh injury and could be picked for the continental tournament in which India are set to play their matches in Sri Lanka.
It is pertinent to note that Rahul has been sitting on the sidelines since IPL 2023 during which he sustained a thigh injury. He has had to undergo a surgery and has been in rehabiltation trying for a comeback. With the 31-year-old India's first choice wicketkeeper-batter in ODIs, if he is fit then he would definitely be picked. That is what seems to be the case as per a TOI report which claims he is "completely fit and available for selection."
"The coaches and medical experts at the BCCI's National Cricket Academ y in Bangalore are satisfied with Rahul's progress/recovery. He will be available for selection for the Asia Cup," a source close to the development was quoted by TOI. Earlier, a BCCI medical report dated July 21 had confirmed that Rahul was recovering, had resumed batting in the nets and was taking strength and fitness exercies at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore.
Meanwhile, two more injured players have already been named in the squad for the Ireland T20Is. While Jasprit Bumrah will play his first competitive game since September last year after being announced the captain of the India side that travels to Ireland, Prasidh Krishna also returns to the national setup for this series.
India will begin their Asia Cup 2023 campaign with a clash against Pakistan at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on September 2.
