Jasprit Bumrah Reprimanded By ICC For Shoulder Barging Ollie Pope In IND vs ENG 1st Test

IND vs ENG 1st Test: Jasprit Bumrah has admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by ICC Match Referee Richie Richardson.

Star India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been handed an official reprimand by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for breaching Level 1 of the Conduct during the first Test match against England at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Bumrah has been found to have been in violation of Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. The same relates to "inappropriate physical contact with a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other person (including a spectator during an International Match."

Notably, in the 81st over of the England second innings when Ollie Pope tried to take a leg bye off Bumrah, the Indian fast bowler came in the way of the batter, shoulder barging him. The reprimand seems to be for that offence which also sees one demerit point being added to Bumrah's disciplinary record. This is the first offence for the 30-year-old in a 24-month period.

Jasprit Bumrah Admitted Offence And Accepted Sanctions

It is pertinent to note that Bumrah admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Richie Richardson of the ICC Elite Panel Of Match Referees. Since the Indian pace spearhead, who scalped six wickets in the Hyderabad Test, accepted the charges, an official hearing was not required.

On-field umpires Paul Reiffel and Chris Gaffeney along with the third umpire Marais Erasmus and fourth umpire Rohan Pandit levelled the charges.

An official release by the ICC confirmed that Level 1 charges carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand while a player can receive a penelty of upto 50 per cent of his/her match fees, in addition to one or two demerit points.
