Jasprit Bumrah To Miss Lord's Test? Shubman Gill Shares Fitness Update

Jasprit Bumrah was rested for the second Test as part of workload management. Despite his absence, India’s bowling attack rose to the occasion and powered India to a336-run victory.

Shubman Gill, who recently became the first Indian captain to win a Test match at Edgbaston, has confirmed that pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah will return to India's playing XI for the third Test against England at Lord’s, starting July 10.

Bumrah was rested for the second Test as part of workload management. Despite his absence, India’s bowling attack — spearheaded by Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep — rose to the occasion, taking all 20 wickets and powering India to a commanding 336-run victory.

Bumrah's return confirmed for Lord's Test

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Gill responded: “Definitely (Bumrah back at Lord’s?). Very excited for that (Lord’s Test)."

Gill also heaped praise on Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj for stepping up in Bumrah’s absence, highlighting their combined haul of 16-17 wickets as a remarkable achievement.

“Both of them took 16-17 wickets. That itself is a big, big achievement coming into this Test match, especially without Jasprit [Bumrah] bhai. There were a lot of questions if we would be able to take those 20 wickets. And the way these two guys delivered was just outstanding. I have no words to describe,” Gill added.

With Bumrah expected to return to the playing XI for the Lord’s Test, Prasidh Krishna is the most likely candidate to make way.

Akash Deep's standout performance

Team India scripted a historic win with a dominant performance at Edgbaston Cricket Stadium in Birmingham, defeating England by a massive 336 runs in the second Test of the series. This marked India’s first-ever Test victory at this iconic venue.

India had set a daunting target of 608 runs for the hosts. While England showed resistance, it was Akash Deep’s sensational bowling that turned the tide decisively in India's favor. The pacer emerged as the standout performer, claiming 4 wickets in the first innings and 5 in the second, finishing with an impressive match haul of 9 wickets. His match-winning effort made him the central figure in India’s landmark triumph.
