Ishant likely to miss West Indies Test series

Ishant has already sought a medical opinion in London and is expected to rest his injury before undergoing rehab

Veteran Indian pace bowler Ishant Sharma, who hurt his ankle in the fifth and final Test against England, has reportedly suffered an ankle stress fracture and is likely to be out of action for at least a month, effectively ruling him out of the West Indies Test series, starting immediately after the Asia Cup.

According to sources, Ishant has already sought a medical opinion in London and is expected to rest his injury before undergoing rehab at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

Ishant was one of the standout bowlers for India in the series, leading the Indian pace attack. He remained the second leading wicket-taker in the series after James Anderson. He picked 18 wickets from 5 games and also grabbed a 5-wicket haul in the first Test held in Birmingham.

The Indian team management too, isn’t keen to Ishant exerting himself in Indian conditions and wants the Delhi speedster to be well prepared and fit in time for the big away tour to Australia later this year.
