IPL approves mid-season transfer window

New Delhi: The Indian Premier League (IPL) has undergone several changes since its inception in 2008 and the governing council has proposed few more changes to India’s ‘million-dollar baby’ as it enters the 11th year of entertainment.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is keen on starting the evening fixtures by 7 PM. Traditionally, the match starts at 8 pm but Indian cricket’s top body has noticed that it causes inconvenience for the fans present in the stadium if the match starts late due to rains or if the games get extended due to super-over.

The idea was proposed by chairman IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla in the council meeting and it was welcomed by the owners of all franchises. However, the implementation still depends on Star Sports, which is the official broadcaster of the event.

The owners of all the 8 eight franchises have reacted positively to the idea of mid-season player transfer. The rule allows the players to switch to other teams during the season, just like football where the European clubs are allowed to trade players during the winter transfer window in January. In IPL, the move will be allowed only when the player has played two or less than 2 games out of the first 7 league games.
