IPL 2019: Rohit Sharma sustains injury during MI practice session

After sustaining the injury, Rohit Sharma likely to be rested from Wednesday's match against the KXIP

Days ahead of India’s World Cup squad announcement, opener and vice-captain Rohit Sharma has sustained an injury. The right-hand batsman hurt his right hamstring ahead of Mumbai Indians’ IPL match against the Kings XI Punjab at the Wankhede Stadium during practice on Tuesday. As learned from media reports, as soon as the MI skipper went down wriggling in pain, team physio Nitin Patel rushed to tend to him. Soon the ‘HITMAN’ stood up on his feet but was seen hobbling on his way back to the dressing room for further treatment. In due course, he was forced to leave the practice session. As of now, the franchise has not released any official statement on Rohit’s situation. However, they posted a GIF video of the skipper where he can be seen signalling that everything is fine! Probably, this could be an indication for the fans that there is nothing to worry about. Rohit Sharma has featured in all the five games so far this season and has scored 118 runs with a highest of 48 at an average of 23.60 in the current edition of the IPL. The Mumbai Indians are currently fifth on the IPL table after three wins, while the Punjab franchise has played one game more and with four wins is third on the points table. Likely to be rested in Wednesday’s match against KXIP The ICC Cricket World is a few weeks away and keeping players’ workload in mind, the MI skipper may be rested for the encounter due to an injury as per reports in India Today. The report also said that the only “bright side” was that the opener climbed to the dressing room on his own after receiving some treatment from Nitin Patel.
