IPL 2019: Deepak Chahar breaks long standing record with match winning spell against KKR
CSK seamer Deepak Chahar dented KKR with some telling blows early in their innings, running through their top order by picking three wickets in his opening spell.
The Chennai Super Kings continued their good performance in the Indian Premier League notching up their fifth win by defeating Kolkata Knight Riders at the Chepauk stadium in yesterday's IPL clash between the table toppers. CSK's clinical win was built around some exceptional bowling by their seamer Deepak Chahar and the spinners who cast a web around the 'Purple brigade'.
It indeed was Deepak Chahar who dented the opposition with some telling blows early in their innings, running through their top order by picking three wickets in his opening spell. Deepak Chahar’s devastating spell also helped him break a long standing bowling record in the Indian Premier League.
Deepak Chahar bowled an unprecedented 20 dots in the innings, the most by any bowler in the history of the IPL. 15 out of the first 18 balls which Chahar bowled were dots. The Agra seamer required five more of those in his last over to break the record for most dots jointly held by Ashish Nehra, Munaf Patel and Fidel Edwards. All of them bowled 9 dots each in 2009 in assisting conditions in South Africa. It took nearly 10 years to break this record. The 26-year-old came back to bowl the penultimate over of the game with Andre Russell on the strike. He did exceedingly well as he gave away just one six and got five blocks.
The pacer made the initial break through by dismissing hard hitting Chris Lynn opener. Nitish Rana then gifted away his wicket to Chahar by playing a rather poor shot. Chahar then accounted for KKR's ever dependable batsman Robin Uthappa . The strikes left KKR reeling at , a big hole from which they could never recover.
