IND vs WI, 2nd T20I: Nicholas Pooran Fined For Breaching ICC Code Of Conduct

IND vs WI, 2nd T20I: Nicholas Pooran has been fined for an incident which happened in the fourth over of India innings.

West Indies wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran has been found guilty of breaching the ICC Code of Conduct in the second of the five-match T20I series at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. The West Indian star was found in violation of Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the second T20I which they won by 2 wickets to take a 2-0 lead. Consequently, the left-handed batter has been fined 15 per cent of his match fees.

"Pooran was found to have breached Article 2.7 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to public criticism in relation to an incident occurring in an international match," an official release from the International Cricket Council (ICC) read.

The same release has confirmed that Pooran admitted to the offence which is why there as no need of an official hearing. He admitted to the sanction of the fine proposed by match referee Richie Richardson. Meanwhile, one demerit point has been added to Pooran's disciplinary record. This was his the first offence in a 24-month period.

The incident for which Pooran has been fined happened in the fourth over of the India innings. The stumper was critical of the umpires for having to use up a player review for a LBW call which in his opinion was clearly not out. The charges were levelled against on-field umpires Leslie Reifer and Nigel Duguid, third umpire Gregory Brathwaite and fourth official Patrick Gustard.

Meanwhile, the 27-year-old has been in great form in the ongoing series. While he scored 41 off 34 in the series opener, his counter-attacking 67 off 40 laid the foundation of a West Indian victory in the second fixture. Pooran was adjudged the Player of the match for his performance.

The two teams will lock horns in the third match of the series on Tuesday (August 8) in Guyana before they travel to Florida for the final two fixtures of India's tour.
