Two World Cup 2024 winners, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, fresh after announcing their retirement from the shortest format, will return to white-ball action when Team India takes on Sri Lanka in a three-match ODI series, starting from August 2nd onwards.
India's tour to Sri Lanka, comprising three T20Is and as many ODIs, will be newly-appointed coach Gautam Gambhir's first assignment with the national team. Reports suggest that Gambhir wanted both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to be part of IND vs SL ODI series as Team India will play just six ODI matches before the 2025 Champions Trophy. After the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, India will play another ODI series against England.

Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma on verge of attaining major milestones upon India return
When Virat Kohli returns to Indian colors, he will have the chance to breach the 14,000-run mark in One Day Internationals. The legendary Indian batter requires 152 runs to reach this milestone. So far, Sachin Tendulkar is the only Indian batter to score 14,000 ODI runs. Overall, Kohli will become the third cricketer, behind Kumar Sangakkara, to breach the 14,000 ODI run mark.
Rohit Sharma will have chance to become third-highest run-getter in ODIs for India
Sachin Tendulkar (18,426 runs) and Virat Kohli (13,848 runs) are the top two highest run-scorers in ODIs for India. In the upcoming IND vs SL ODI series, India captain Rohit Sharma will have the chance to become the third-highest run-getter in ODIs for India. Currently, Rahul Dravid (10,786) and Sourav Ganguly (11,221) are ahead of Rohit on this list.
The first ODI of the three-match IND vs SL ODI series will take place at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The second ODI will be played on July 28 at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, followed by the third ODI at the same venue.
