Sachin Tendulkar Steps In To Preserve Pataudi Trophy Legacy

The iconic Pataudi Trophy, named in 2007 to honor one of India’s greatest captains, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, recently faced the possibility of being renamed the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and England Cricket Board (ECB) had reportedly considered the name change to recognize the contributions of modern-day legends Sachin Tendulkar and James Anderson. However, the move received widespread criticism from fans and former cricketers.
Sachin Wins Hearts Again
In a gesture that won hearts across the cricketing world, Sachin Tendulkar reportedly requested both boards to retain the original name out of respect for Nawab Pataudi’s legacy.
According to Cricbuzz, Tendulkar wasn’t in favor of replacing a name that held deep historical and emotional significance. His intervention, along with the support of ICC Chairman Jay Shah, played a crucial role in the reported decision to keep the Pataudi Trophy name intact.
"Yes, there is a confirmed plan to retain the Pataudi link in the England-India series," the official further told this website. It is likely that the authorities will name a medallion in the name of late MAK Pataudi, which will, in all likelihood, be given to the winning captain," Cricbuzz quoted the ECB official.

Pataudi Medal to Be Introduced
As a compromise, reports suggest that a Pataudi Medal may be introduced and awarded to the winning captain, further honoring the legendary cricketer.
Official Confirmation Awaited
While the decision has been widely discussed, an official statement from the BCCI or ECB is still awaited.
