ICC ODI Rankings: India dethrones England as the top-ranked team
India has emerged as a top-ranked side with 123 points. India have been unbeaten in their first five matches of the tournament and are all set to attain their sixth win vs Windies on Thursday
After starting World Cup 2019 tournament on a high, hosts England were believed to be the big favourites to lift the prestigious trophy. However, after their dismal performance is the last couple of matches, Morgan-led England have been dethroned as the top-ranked One-Day International side. This is the first time since May 2018 that they are not sitting on top of the men’s ODI rankings.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli-led India has emerged as a top-ranked side with 123 points. India have been unbeaten in their first five matches of the tournament and are all set to attain their sixth WC 2019 win as they take on Windies on Thursday.
India skipper Virat Kohli has been on song in the ongoing World Cup in England and Wales. With three fifties, Kohli has so far scored 244 runs in the four innings he has played. While he is currently 12th in the list of leading run-getters, Kohli will surely move upwards with India still to play as many as four games in the group stages alone.
England slipped by one position after their back-to-back losses against Sri Lanka and Australia. Once considered as the tournament favourites now need to win their remaining two fixtures against India and New Zealand to qualify to the semi-finals.
England's second straight defeat following the stunning reverse to Sri Lanka has now made their path to the last four-way tougher than it was not less than a week ago. Defending World Champions Australia became the first team to reach the semifinals of the ongoing World Cup on Tuesday. Aaron Finch's pacers bossed arch-rivals England on their way to the World Cup semifinals with a 64-run victory on Tuesday.
