Ganguly backs under fire Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed

Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly has said that Pakistani batsman Sarfraz Ahmed is great as a captain and leaders like him are not born every day.

Under fire Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed found support from the most unlikely corner in Sourav Ganguly as the former India skipper threw his weight firmly behind Sarfraz after he came under a lot of criticism for going down to India twice in the ongoing Asia Cup.

Showering praise of Sarfraz, Ganguly said players like Sarfraz are rare to find.

"Sarfraz is a great captain and cricketers like him are not born every day," Geo TV quoted Ganguly, as saying.

Pakistan suffered a 9-wicket loss to India in the Super 4 stage days after losing their group match to arch-rivals by 8 wickets at the same Dubai International Stadium.

Ganguly advised the Pakistan Cricket Board to stand behind their cricketers instead of taking any drastic measures.

"He is a courageous player and the way he captained the team during the Champions Trophy last year was impeccable," he added.

Pakistan will face India in the final of the Asia Cup if they managed to beat Bangladesh in their third Super Four clash to be held on September 24.
