WATCH: Here's how Ben Stokes guided England to 31-run victory
Though he failed to perform with the bat (scored 27 in both innings), he made sure to compensate with the ball
Ben Stokes hit the final nail in the coffin as England registered a terrific victory against India. He took the last Indian wicket of Hardik Pandya and pushed the hosts on the receiving end, beating them by 31 runs.
Representing England in whites after almost 3 months, Stokes rattled the Indian batters on the fourth day of the first day. After picking two scalps in the first innings, he returned strong in the second and rattled the Indian middle order.
Moreover, he created a huge buzz in the ground after dismissing set batsman Virat Kohli, which evolved as the turning point for the hosts.

Apart from Kohli, he hunted down Mohammad Shami on a duck, Lokesh Rahul on the previous day and finally, Pandya to end the business.
Though he failed to perform with the bat (scored 27 in both innings), he made sure to compensate with the ball. And once he did the job perfectly, Stokes turned emotional while speaking about his commendable feat.
“We weren't quite sure what to expect here. Knew we needed five wickets and we had all the confidence, these games are brilliant. We've copped a lot of stick as a team recently and beating a team like India there has closed a few mouths,” said Stokes at the post-match presentation.
“Winning those tight games, you can't underestimate what it gives teams for confidence. We've got a five-Test match series here, so we'll take all the confidence we can. No better way to start it off than that,” he added.
Here’re the other three scalps he picked in the second innings:
