KL Rahul equals Rahul Dravid's 13-year-old record

Rahul still has a chance to surpass Dravid as India is yet to field in the second innings.

KL Rahul may have failed to prove his mettle with the bat in this series so far but his catching skills have led him to the record books of cricket. In the fifth and the final Test against England at the Oval, the 26-year-old cricketer equalled the long-standing Indian record for most catches in a Test series.

Before this game, he already had owned the record of grabbing most catches in an away Test series. But in London, the moment he took an overhead stunner at mid-on to dismiss Stuart Broad on Saturday, he got on par with Rahul Dravid who took as many catches 13 years back against Australia in the 2004-05 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Here's the video:

Apart from both Rahuls, former West Indies skipper Brian Lara and Australia’s Bob Simpson have done this marvel on two occasions. Lara did it against India in 2006 and England in 1997-98. On the other hand, Simpson’s record came against South Africa in 1957-58 and West Indies in 1960-61.

Rahul still has a chance to surpass these stats of Dravid, Lara and Simpson as India is yet to field in the second innings.

The record of grabbing most catches in a Test series remains in the name of Australia’s Jack Gregory. He took 15 catches in 1920-21 against England during the Ashes series. The second cricketer who falls on this list is former Australian cricket and Indian coach Greg Chappell, who Who took 14 catches in 1974-75 Ashes series.
