Cricketers failing Yo-Yo test should be given a 2nd chance: Sandeep Patil

The recent addition to the pool of players failing this test was Ambati Rayudu who lost his place in Indian squad for forthcoming ODI series against England

While the BCCI has been emphasising on the Yo-Yo test to decide a cricketer’s place in Indian cricket team, several cricket experts have questioned this policy.

Adding to it, former Indian chief selector Sandeep Patil has suggested that the players who fail to pass the test on first attempt, should be given another chance to prove their mettle.

In a conversation with Wah Cricket, Patil said, “Like in Test cricket, where a player gets two innings to prove himself, even in the case of Yo-Yo tests, he should be given two chances.”

“If a player can’t clear the test, give him another crack at it a few hours later, or the next day. There could be several reasons why Ambati Rayudu failed the Yo-Yo test. A player may not be mentally there. You’re talking about the career of a player. He has performed well for the whole year in domestic cricket, and in half-an-hour, you’ll decide whether he’d go on the tour or not. You don’t drop players like this,” he added.

After Mohammad Shami and Sanju Samson, the recent addition to the pool of players failing this test was Ambati Rayudu who lost his place in Indian squad for forthcoming ODI series against England.

Rayudu scored over 600 runs in the recently concluded season of the IPL. Based on his consistency, he was named in the ODI squad.

After getting ruled out from the side, he has been replaced by Indian veteran Suresh Raina who made his comeback after almost three years.
