Champions Trophy: How India Can Secure Semifinal Spot Without Playing Against New Zealand

India, with consecutive victories, is almost assured of a semifinal spot in ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

India sits atop the Group A points table in ICC Champions Trophy 2025 with four points. To secure a semifinal spot, they need just one favorable result in the group. If that happens, the outcome of India's final league-stage match against New Zealand will have no impact on their qualification.

Pakistan is on the verge of elimination after losing both of their group-stage matches - first against New Zealand and then against India. Their chances of making the semifinals now rely on an unlikely miracle.

Meanwhile, India, with consecutive victories, is almost assured of a semifinal spot. New Zealand can confirm their place in the semis by defeating Bangladesh on Monday (February 24). If they win, both India and New Zealand will advance from Group A, officially knocking Pakistan and Bangladesh out of the tournament.

In the Group A standings, India leads with 4 points, while New Zealand has 2 points. Bangladesh (1 match, 1 loss) and Pakistan (2 matches, 2 losses) are yet to secure a win and remain at zero points.

Each team in Group A plays three league-stage matches. A win against Bangladesh would take New Zealand to 4 points.

If New Zealand wins, both India and New Zealand will advance to the semifinals with 4 points each, making their March 2 (Sunday) clash a dead rubber. With Pakistan and Bangladesh unable to reach 4 points, their semifinal hopes will be over. However, India and New Zealand will still compete for the top spot in Group A.

India is all but set to play the first semifinal on March 4 in Dubai. If New Zealand defeats Bangladesh, they will head back to Pakistan after their match against India for the second semifinal on March 5.

Champions Trophy 2025 final will take place in Dubai if India wins their semifinal, but if they lose, Pakistan will host the title clash.
