Can KKR Qualify For Playoffs? Updated Scenario After CSK Loss

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) face an uphill battle to qualify for IPL 2025 playoffs.

Defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) suffered a major setback in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 campaign after a narrow two-wicket loss to Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

With their sixth defeat in 12 games, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are now stuck at sixth place with 11 points and face an uphill battle to qualify for IPL 2025 playoffs.

KKR's only path to IPL 2025 knockouts

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) must win both of their remaining matches - against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalor - to finish on 15 points. However, even if they do, their playoff hopes remain slim and heavily dependent on other results.

Gujarat Titans and RCB already have 16 points and are out of KKR's reach. Punjab Kings, sitting third with 15 points from 11 games, and Mumbai Indians, fourth with 14 points from 12, are also ahead in the race. If PBKS win even one of their remaining three matches (against Delhi Capitals, MI, and Rajasthan Royals), KKR won't be able to overtake them.

The fact that PBKS and MI face off once guarantees at least one team will move further ahead - making it even harder for KKR to sneak in. Ideally, KKR will be hoping MI lose all their remaining games, given they have fewer chances left.

On top of that, KKR must also hope that Delhi Capitals (13 points from 11 games) and Lucknow Super Giants (10 points from 11) do not surpass them in the final standings.

In short, KKR's road to the playoffs is now a long shot - relying on flawless performances and a series of favorable outcomes across the table.
