Asia Cup 2025 Schedule: India's Participation Hinges On Government Nod

The ACC will finalize Asia Cup 2025 schedule in early July, likely starting September 10. Uncertainty surrounded India's participation due to government clearance, but a boycott seems unlikely.

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is set to bring some clarity to cricket fans eagerly waiting for the Asia Cup 2025. The tournament, which is likely to begin on September 10, is expected to have its full schedule and other details confirmed in the first week of July. For months, uncertainty surrounded the event, but it looks like an official decision is finally on the horizon.

There were earlier discussions about the United Arab Emirates (UAE) stepping in as a co-host alongside India. This idea emerged because Pakistan had previously agreed not to travel to India, in line with an arrangement before the Champions Trophy. While that plan was being considered, recent reports suggest the final call is close, and the situation should soon be settled.

According to updates from Cricbuzz, the ACC wants to finalize and announce the fixtures at its upcoming meeting in July. This edition of the Asia Cup will be played in the T20 format and will feature six teams: India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and the UAE. Once the schedule is locked in, fans can expect an official release with complete match details and venues.

However, one major talking point has been India’s participation. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is currently waiting for government clearance, especially considering the recent diplomatic tensions with Pakistan. Last month, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia addressed rumors, firmly stating that there were no plans to pull out. InsideSport reported that BCCI is simply waiting for the government’s green light before making any commitments.

A BCCI official clarified that India has always played Pakistan in ICC events and will continue unless the government decides otherwise. As things stand, there isn’t any directive to boycott matches, so it appears likely that India will join the tournament.

Interestingly, neither the BCCI nor the Pakistan Cricket Board raised objections when both countries were placed in the same group for the upcoming Women’s ODI World Cup 2025. This shows that both boards want to avoid any major disputes that could impact future global or regional competitions.

All in all, cricket lovers can expect final confirmation in early July. If everything falls into place, the Asia Cup 2025 promises high-voltage contests and a much-awaited showdown between top Asian teams starting this September.
