Ashes 2019: Steve Smith Out Of Lord's Test Due To Concussion

According to reports, Smith reported grogginess and a headache and his ruling out is due to concussion

South African-born Australian cricketer Marnus Labuschagne will replace Steve Smith as the concussion sub under the new Test playing conditions on Day 5 of the second Test match at Lord's stadium. According to reports, Smith reported grogginess and a headache and his ruling out is due to concussion. Smith had passed a series of concussion tests after getting hit on the neck to get cleared to resume his innings. ICC match referee Ranjan Madugalle approved  Labuschagne as Smith's replacement with no conditions attached after Australia applied for a concussion substitute following Steve Smith's injury yesterday. Smith has been diagnosed with concussion and will not take to the field today. It's the first time a concussion sub has ever come into a Test match. The Aussie star batsman will undergo a precautionary scan on his neck on Sunday, but is now in serious doubt for the third Test at Headingley, which starts on Thursday. A ferocious bouncer from England's Jofra Archer had floored Steve Smith on Day 4 of the rain-affected second Ashes Test at Lord's on Saturday. Smith survived a deadly bouncer from Archer which forced him to retire hurt, but he came back and helped Australia not lose sight of England's first innings score of 258. Smith was batting on 80 from 152 balls when in the 77th over a delivery by Archer hit him on the unprotected part of the neck. The medics ran into the middle from both sides, as the England players rushed to the former Aussie skipper immediately. As Smith lay on his back before slowly getting back on his feet, he looked dazed. The medics forced him to leave the field with Australia at 203/6, still some way behind England's first innings score of 258. Smith walked back to the pavilion to loud applause after helping his side out of a hole as he did in the first Test. Soon Smith, who at the outset did not want to leave the field, walked back but this time he was not as composed as he was before the knock, leaving a straight delivery from Chris Woakes which caught him plumb in front of the stumps for 92.
