Ashes 2019: Cummins Picks Up 29 Wickets To End Series As Highest Wicket Taker

Cummins broke 42-year-old record of most wickets, without a five-for, that was until held by former Australia pacer Wayne Clark. Clark had 28 wickets to his name in the 1977-78 Ashes series.

Australian seam bowler Pat Cummins ended as the highest wicket taker in the 2019 Ashes series, finishing with a rich haul of 29 wickets, without having picked a five-for to his name. Cummins claimed 2 wickets in the second innings of the 5th and final Ashes Test at The Oval, adding to his 3 wickets in the first innings to take his total tally to 29 at a staggering average of 9.63 runs apiece. On the course, Cummins broke 42-year-old record of most wickets, without a five-for, that was until held by former Australia pacer Wayne Clark. Clark had 28 wickets to his name in the 1977-78 Ashes series. Cummins 29 wickets, are the most by an Australian fast bowler on foreign soil since Glenn McGrath picked up 32 wickets in 2001--the last time when Australia won a series in England. The speedster scalped 7 wickets in first Test, six in second, four with Third Test while once again picked 7 wickets in the fourth Test that Australia won to retain Ashes on English soil for the first time since 2001. Though Australia coach Justin Langer said it might not be "humanly possible" for one of his fast bowlers to play all five Tests but Cummins has done that. Not only he has featured in all Test but he has also bowled 211 overs, the most by an Australian fast bowler in a Test series this century to surpass McGrath's 209.1 in the 2006-07 Ashes on home soil.
