Two Thousand Applicants Challenge Ravi Shastri To Become Team India Coach

Several media reports have claimed that the BCCI has received over 2000 applications for the post of head coach of the Indian cricket team

‘Water water everywhere, not a drop to drink’, this quote is from a famous poem ‘Rime of The Ancient Mariner’, written by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Most of us have read it back in our school days but it perfectly describes the current scenario of Team India's coaching staff selection. Several media reports have claimed that the BCCI has received over 2000 applications for the post of head coach of the Indian cricket team. However, there is a lack of big names in the applicants, which could possibly beat incumbent Ravi Shastri. The list of applicants includes former Australian Tom Moody, former New Zealand and current Kings XI Punjab head coach Mike Hesson, Robin Singh and Lalchand Rajput. Apart from these four prominent names, former South African cricketer Jonty Rhodes had also applied for the role of fielding coach of Team India. Earlier, the Indian coaching staff, including chief coach Ravi Shastri, was handed a 45-day extension after the World Cup 2019, even though their contract ends with the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. Besides Shastri, the support staff also includes assistant coach Sanjay Bangar, bowling coach Bharat Arun and fielding coach R. Sridhar. The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) led by World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev has been entrusted with the responsibility of selecting India's new coach. CAC co-member Anshuman Gaekwad said that they will go in with an open mind when they sit down to interview the short-listed candidates.
