Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday will engage with the Indian team leaving for the Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2022 via video conference, news agency ANI reported.

The prime minister's contact is a part of his ongoing efforts to inspire athletes before they compete in important sporting events.

Modi engaged both the Indian athletes travelling to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and the Indian para-athletes travelling to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games last year

The prime minister showed a deep interest in the participants' progress even throughout the athletic activities. He frequently called athletes directly to congratulate them on their accomplishments and honest efforts while inspiring them to perform better.

The Prime Minister has also met and spoken with the athletes since their return to the nation.

Commonwealth Games 2022

From July 28 until August 8, Birmingham will host the CWG 2022. At the CWG 2022, 215 participants from 19 different sports will compete in 141 different events for India.

India is preparing a 215-member group to represent the country at the 2022 Commonwealth Games (CWG), which would mark the country's 18th participation in the massive competition.

India won a record-breaking 66 medals at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, including 26 gold, 20 silver, and 20 bronze. In the following edition, the contingent will try to beat that performance.

The Indian delegation to the CWG in 2022 will participate in 16 athletic categories at 15 sites spread over nine distinct British cities and towns.
