When Will Ramadan Begin: March 1 Or 2?

The expected start date of the Ramadan month is either February 28 or March 1. However, the official date will only be confirmed after the moon is sighted. Almost all Islamic festivals and observances are determined based on the sighting of the moon, and Ramadan is no exception. The holy month begins when the new crescent moon is visible.  

If the Ramadan moon is sighted today, February 28, then the first fast (Roza) will be observed on March 1. However, if the moon is not visible today, fasting will commence on March 2.

Why Is The Month Of Ramadan Special?

The month of Ramadan holds great significance in Islam. According to Islamic belief, it was during this sacred month that Prophet Mohammed received the verses of the Quran from Allah. Throughout Ramadan, Muslims observe fasting from sunrise to sunset. Along with fasting, this month is considered a special time to embrace spirituality and unity. Fasting during Ramadan purifies both the body and soul. Acts of worship and good deeds performed during this month bring Allah’s blessings and divine grace.
