To restore knowledge, Lord Vishnu took the Matsya avatar, defeated Hayagriva, and safeguarded the Vedas. This incarnation symbolises the restoration of dharma and the preservation of Earth from destruction. The Matsya avatar is also mentioned in the Gita, Mahabharata, and Vishnu Purana.
