On this day, taking a bath in the Ganges is believed to yield the benefits of bathing in the Ganges for the entire year. Performing a lamp donation, deep-daan and specifically worshipping Goddess Lakshmi on this day enhances the attainment of auspicious results. Kartik Purnima also marks the day when Lord Vishnu incarnated as Matsya, the fish avatar, which is considered the first of Lord Vishnu's ten avatars, Dashavatara.

On Kartik Purnima, donate items like grains, clothes, yogurt, ghee, sugar, silver, sesame seeds, etc. It is believed that this pleases Goddess Lakshmi and brings prosperity and abundance in wealth and grains.
Things To Do On Kartik Purnima
- On this day, after taking a bath during Brahma Muhurat, wear clean clothes and clean the place of worship. Then, spread a red cloth on a platform and place an idol or photo of Goddess Lakshmi on it.
- First, bathe Goddess Lakshmi, then dress her in new clothes and adorn her beautifully. Apply a tilak with sandalwood and offer a sacred thread (kalawa). Offer an Aparajita flower and recite the Satyanarayan Katha.
- In the evening, when the moon rises, fill a silver or steel vessel with water and mix milk in it, then offer it as an offering, argya to the moon. This helps in removing the lunar dosha.
