It is also referred to as Janaki Navami in many parts of India.

According to the Hindu calendar, Sita Jayanti falls on the Navami Tithi (ninth day) of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Vaishakh. In 2025, Sita Navami will be observed on Monday, May 5.

According to Hindu scriptures, Goddess Sita was born on a Tuesday under the Pushya Nakshatra, while Lord Rama was born a month earlier on Ram Navami, which falls in the month of Chaitra.

Rituals And Celebrations:

On this day, women observe fasts to pray for a harmonious and prosperous married life. The rituals also symbolize the devotion and purity associated with Goddess Sita.

Key Rituals to Followed on Sita Navami:

  • Offer sixteen traditional adornment items (Solah Shringar) to Goddess Sita.
  • Prepare and offer kheer (sweet rice pudding) as a special bhog (offering).
  • Distribute prasadam to young girls (kanyas) as a part of the celebration.
  • Chant the mantra "Om Pativrataya Namah" for marital bliss.
  • Recite the Sita Chalisa and offer red chunari (veil) or red clothes to the deity, believed to help resolve marriage-related issues.
  • Worship Lord Rama and Goddess Sita together, and recite the Janaki Stotra.
