According to the Hindu calendar, Diwali in 2024 is today, on October 31, falling on the Amavasya of Kartik month. The festival of Diwali commemorates Lord Rama's return to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile with his wife Sita and brother Lakshman. It is traditionally believed that Diwali has been celebrated since that time, as the people of Ayodhya rejoiced and illuminated the city to welcome their king home.

On Diwali, it is traditional to worship Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi. Cowries (shells) also hold special significance in Diwali’s Lakshmi Puja, as they are considered symbols of wealth and prosperity linked to Goddess Lakshmi, who, along with the cowries, shares a connection to the ocean. Placing cowries in the Diwali Puja is believed to attract blessings and increase wealth, making them an auspicious addition for devotees seeking prosperity.

On the night of Amavasya, also known as the "Mahanisha," Lakshmi Puja is performed to honour the goddess of wealth. According to tantric practices, performing certain rituals with cowries during Diwali Puja is believed to draw blessings from Goddess Lakshmi, potentially relieving financial issues and fostering prosperity. The benefits of these rituals are said to include continued financial stability and happiness.

Goddess Lakshmi's Blessings Will Be With You

During Diwali’s Lakshmi Puja, place 5 yellow cowries and 9 Gomti Chakras near the goddess. After completing the ritual for Lakshmi and Ganesha, wrap the items in red cloth and keep them in your locker or cabinet the next day. This practice is believed to help maintain prosperity and happiness in the home.

Remedies To Ensure Prosperity And Happiness At Home

On Diwali, to bring prosperity to your home, place 11 cowries during the worship of Lord Kuber and Goddess Lakshmi on Dhanteras. After the rituals, wrap them in a red cloth and hang them at the entrance. This practice is believed to attract the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi and ward off negative energy.

After the Lakshmi Puja on Diwali, keep a few cowries in your wallet. This practice is believed to prevent poverty and financial difficulties in your home. It helps ensure that the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi remain with you, fostering positivity in your life and bringing you happiness.
