Cricket, one of the most popular sports around the world, is known for entertaining its fans with jaw-dropping action and incredible spirit. Apart from some memorable knocks, lethal spells and intense rivalries, the game was in the news for the wrong reasons. Sydney police arrested Sri Lanka's Danushka Gunathilaka in November during T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. The 31-year-old got accused of sexual assault by a woman, who he met online via dating app. Earlier in October, Nepali cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane was arrested after a 17-year-old girl accused him of rape. In the 34th game of IPL 2022, played between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals, Delhi required 36 runs off last over for the win. Rovaman Powell hammered three consecutive sixes off first three balls. The third delivery bowled by RR's Obed McCoy was a full toss, seemed above Powell's waist height. Rishabh Pant, DC skipper for that game, was absolutely livid after umpires neither called it a no-ball, nor they went upstairs to the third umpire for a referral. India defeated Bangladesh by 5 runs in a thriller that took place during T20 WC in Australia. After India's win, a massive controversy erupted as Bangladesh's Nurul Hasan said his team should have been given five penalty runs as Virat Kohli faked a throw. On 2nd delivery of 7th over, Litton Das played a shot towards the left of sweep cover where Arshdeep Singh, the fielder, grabbed the ball and threw it back but at the same time Virat Kohli feigned a shy at stumps. Virat Kohli shocked the cricketing world by resigning from team India's Test captaincy in January. He made this decision after India, under his captaincy, lost Test series 1-2 against South Africa. Fans and cricket pundits assumed that Virat was not happy with BCCI's decision to remove him as India's ODI captain. After India's dismal show at T20 WC 2021, Virat decided to step down as T20 skipper. Everyone expected Virat to lead the team in ODI and Tests but BCCI asked the batting icon to leave ODI captaincy. A massive controversy erupted after Deepti Sharma 'mankaded' Charlie Dean for backing up too far at the non-striker's end during India vs England Lords' ODI. The incident garnered reactions from all over the world and an intense 'Spirit of the game vs Law of the Game' debate took the internet by storm. Dean's run-out by Deepti helped India register a historic 3-0 clean sweep over England and give legendary seamer Jhulan Goswami a fairy-tale farewell in her last international assignment.
