Aishwarya Rai Stuns In Ivory Coloured Anarkali Suit At The Promotion Of Ponniyin Selvan 2 - See Pics

Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who is gearing up for the second part of Mani Ratnam's magnum opus 'Ponniyin Selvan', was spotted at the promotional event of the film in Mumbai on Tuesday.

The actress chose a traditional Indian attire for the event. She wore an ivory coloured anarkali suit with shimmery embellishments and a matching dupatta.

She kept her long tresses open and rounded off her look with a statement emerald neckpiece.

In the film, Aishwarya plays dual roles of Nandini - the Queen of Pazhuvoor and Mandakini - the aunt of Poonguzhali. The film is based on author Kalki's eponymous novel.

Talking about her role in the film, Aishwarya said in the event, “When Mani Garu (Mani Ratnam) narrated the film to me and said ‘you'll play Nandini', I was like oh my god, really?!. I love it, he is the man of a few words, and it is the experience... his one word is enough, it is his look and a nod and that little 'ah' that follows, you know that there's so much said in that. It was a natural yes and I am so grateful that I got to essay his Nandini and be a part of this amazing and magical, immensely memorable and personally very deeply treasured movie experience for me as an artiste.”

“The way Nandini's is written, as the character and her personality, it's just amazing that all the women, also on the audience, apart from the readers, absolutely love this character, there is a strange relatability.”

Director Mani Ratnam also spoke about his equation with Aishwarya and she being his lucky charm. “Filmmakers are very selfish people. Absolutely heartless and selfish, the only thing they care about is the film. How much I love her, I ask her only if I think she is right for the role, and every time I have asked her it is because I have believed that she was absolutely right for the role and she has been nice enough to say yes. So, she is not just a lucky charm for me, it is her talent and her personality that was right to portray this character,” he said.

The first part of the film dramatises the early life of Chola prince Arunmozhi Varman, who would become the renowned emperor Rajaraja I.

While the first part was released back in September 2022, the second part will land in theatres on April 28. (All images: Manav Manglani)
