Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday met US National Security Advisor Michael Waltz at Blair House in Washington DC.
External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval are also present at the meeting at Blair House, where PM Modi is staying during his US visit.
"Had a fruitful meeting with NSA @michaelgwaltz. He has always been a great friend of India. Defence, technology and security are important aspects of India-USA ties and we had a wonderful discussion around these issues. There is strong potential for cooperation in sectors like AI, semiconductors, space and more," PM Modi said in a post on X.
PM Modi arrived in the US on a two-day visit to hold high-stakes talks with President Donald Trump amid concerns in New Delhi over Washington's new America First trade agenda as well as its policy on immigration. Modi and Trump will hold bilateral discussions in the White House on Thursday.

India, US To Sign New Defence Framework
India and the United States will sign a new defence framework during PM Modi's visit to the US, giving a boost to the bilateral partnership between the two countries, a senior White House official said.
"Today's meetings with PM Modi and his government will build up on the accomplishments of the last Trump administration and the two leaders will focus on key areas of defence, trade, energy infrastructure and regional partnerships," the US official said.
"Relating to build on defence sales to India, to ensure they are prioritising the use of American technology, the President is also focussed on unleashing American energy to the rest of the world and will prioritise India as they key importer of America's natural resources to power their economy," he added.
PM Modi is the fourth foreign leader hosted by Trump in the weeks after his inauguration last month. Within less than a month of the start of Trump’s second term in the White House, the Republican President has hosted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and Jordan's King Abdullah II.
