Donald Trump Reacts To Beijing's Retaliatory Tariffs On US: 'China Played It Wrong, Panicked'

Trump accused China of panicking after it imposed tariffs on US imports in response to his trade war, claiming China "cannot afford" such actions.

US President Donald Trump on Friday goaded China and said that the US rival had "panicked" after it announced counter-tariffs in response to his global trade war. In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote that China played it wrong. He added that they panicked, one thing that they cannot afford to do.

"China played it wrong; they panicked—the one thing they cannot afford to do!," US President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social.

The comment by Trump comes after China earlier in the day announced a 34 percent tariff on all US imports. It is set to take effect on April 10 in retaliation to President Donald Trump's recent tariff measures during what he called "Liberation Day".

The finance ministry of China confirmed that the new duty matches the reciprocal tariff imposed on the Chinese exports earlier in the week. The commerce ministry has also planned to tighten the export restrictions on rare earth elements.

On Wednesday, Trump had declared a national emergency to enforce his sweeping policy, which places at atleast ten percent duty on most of the imports. The plan includes higher tariffs on key US allies such as Israel, Japan, and the European Union, among others.
