VIRAL SACH: The truth of message about Supreme Court’s guidelines in accident cases

New Delhi: It is being claimed in a viral message that one must not be afraid of helping an accident victim fearing police harassment. Supreme Court in one of its order has said that police cannot harass someone who helped people injured in accidents. It is being said in the viral message that Supreme Court has ordered that police would not interrogate people who brought accident victims to hospital. Hospital would be responsible for this and police would be called later. When we investigated, we found that Supreme Court has indeed passed an order, approving Central government’s guidelines regarding accidents. These guidelines were to be enforced across the nation. The court has said if the helper wanted to go without revealing his identity, he must be allowed to do that. Hospitals would start treatment on arrival and would not wait for the arrival of police in accidental cases. If the helper is willing to cooperate in investigation, his statement would be recorded only once. He would be allowed to appear via video conferencing if he is not able to come. The court has held hospitals accountable for the enforcement of these guidelines. Doctors would be accused of professional misconduct if these guidelines were not followed.
