'Threatened By Islamists For Speaking The Truth': Dutch PM Frontrunner Bats For Nupur Sharma

Wilders, who emerged as the surprise victor of the Dutch election in November last year, said he hopes to meet Nupur Sharma sometime when visiting India.

Geert Wilders, a far-right politician from the Netherlands, has stated that he has given a personal letter of support to suspended Bharatiya Janata Party leader Nupur Sharma, calling her as "brave". Wilders, who emerged as the surprise victor of the Dutch election in November last year, said he hopes to meet Nupur Sharma sometime when visiting India. Taking to X, Wilders stated: "I sent a personal message of support to the brave Nupur Sharma, who is threatened by Islamists for years now only for speaking the truth. Freedom-loving people all over the world should support her. I hope to meet her one day while visiting India."

Nupur Sharma was suspended from the BJP's primary membership in 2022 after a number of Muslim nations formally condemned her statement against Prophet Muhammad during a television discussion. The debate sparked other violent occurrences across the country, including the killing of a tailor in Udaipur, Rajasthan, for his support for Nupur Sharma.

Kanhaiya Lal, 48, was hacked to death with a cleaver inside his business on June 28, with the perpetrators stating it was to punish an alleged insult to Islam.

Amidst the dispute, Wilders made news in India by defending Nupur Sharma.

“Appeasement never works. It will only make things worse. So, my dear friends from India, don't be intimidated by Islamic countries. Stand up for freedom and be proud and steadfast in defending your politician Nupur Sharma who spoke the truth…,” he had said.
