Royal Enfield To Restart Classic 500 Pegasus Sales

After its website crashed on 10 July, Royal Enfield is now ready to commence online sales of the Pegasus again

Royal Enfield introduced the Classic 500 Pegasus as a tribute to the famed World War II motorcycle called the RE/WD 125. Only 1000 units of the limited edition bike are produced, of which 250 units have been earmarked for the Indian market. Launched in May, the bike was supposed to go on sale online on 10 July; however, owing to the overwhelming response and traffic online, the firm's website crashed on launch day.

Now though, Royal Enfield has announced on their official social media accounts that the Pegasus Classic 500 will go on sale from 25 July at 4pm.

The overall design of the bike is pretty much the same as the standard Classic 500. However, the heritage paint job and additional accessories give it the look of a motorcycle from World War II. The bike comes with a set of military-style canvas panniers bearing the Pegasus logo and a maroon and blue Pegasus emblem on the fuel tank. Each bike also features a unique stencilled serial number on the fuel tank and the trademark ‘Made Like a Gun’ decal on the battery box.

Powering the bike is a 499cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled motor capable of producing 28PS at 5250rpm and 41Nm at 4000rpm. Power is transferred to the rear wheel via a 5-speed transmission linked to a chain drive.

Although the Classic 500 Pegasus Edition is available in two shades overseas, Service Brown and Olive Drab Green, only Service Brown will be offered in India as green is a colour reserved for the armed forces here. Launched at a price of Rs 2.40 lakh (on-road Delhi), the heritage bike will compete with the UM Renegade Commando (Rs 1.81 lakh), UM Renegade Commando Classic (Rs 1.99 lakh), UM Renegade Commando Mojave (Rs 1.81 lakh) and the Bajaj Dominar 400 (Rs 1.56 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi).
