Royal Enfield has introduced the Classic 350 Redditch Edition with a rear disc variant. At a price tag of Rs 1.47 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai), it costs Rs 8,000 more than the standard variant. The Redditch Edition will be available in three colours: red, blue and green.

The bike comes with a 280mm front disc as standard while the rear 240mm disc is borrowed from the gunmetal grey Classic 350 and 500 models. Apart from the addition of the rear disc, the bike remains unchanged.

The Royal Enfield Classic 350 Redditch Edition runs on the same 346cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled mill that produces a maximum 20PS of power and a peak torque of 28Nm, mated to a 5-speed gearbox.

Extra braking power in the form of a rear disc brake is always welcome; however, the bike still misses out on ABS, even as an option. Considering the UK variant comes with the safety net of ABS, we would have loved to see the Indian version receive the same treatment.

That said, from April 2019, ABS becomes a mandate for all motorcycles above 125cc, so we can expect all RE’s to have at least a single-channel unit upfront.

Moreover, the soon to be launched Interceptor 650 and the Continental GT 650 will come equipped with dual-channel ABS.
