  • The new Parliament building will be constructed close to the existing one and it is expected to be completed in 21 months from the start of construction work.
  • It will be triangular in shape and is supposed to have two-stories with a basement and a ground.
  • The building will have separate offices for all MPs, will be equipped with the latest digital interfaces as a step towards creating "paperless offices".
  • It will also have a grand Constitution Hall to showcase India's democratic heritage, a lounge for members of Parliament, a library, multiple committee rooms, dining areas and ample parking space.
  • Reportedly, the building will have a tricolored beam lighting up the sky overhead.
  • The Lok Sabha hall is planned to be big enough to house 1,350 MPs during a joint parliament session.
  • Five statues including the 16-feet high Mahatma Gandhi statue and that of Bhim Rao Ambedkar, at the existing Parliament complex are likely to be relocated temporarily and they would be reinstalled once the construction work of the new Parliament building is completed.
  • Tata Projects Limited had won the bid to construct a new parliament building at a cost of ₹ 861.90 crore.
  • The proposed date of laying the foundation stone of the new Parliament building is around December 10 but a PTI report says that the final date would depend on the availability of the Prime Minister.
