West Bengal Polls 2021: Theatre Actor Dropped From Play For Joining BJP

West Bengal Polls 2021: The theatre group, known for its productions on socio-economic themes, removed the artiste named Kaushik Kar, from the production for joining the BJP.

Even as the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) continue to exchange verbal volleys in the run-up to the West Bengal Assembly Polls, a theatre group in West Bengal has dropped an artist from a play after he joined the saffron party.

The theatre group, known for its productions on socio-economic themes, removed the artiste named Kaushik Kar, from the production for joining the BJP. The theatre group stated, “there can be no place for communal elements in a play for the working class”.

This was confirmed by Saurav Palodhi, whose “Ghum Nei”, an adaptation of Utpal Dutt’s classic on the present political situation of the country through the prism of Left ideology, on Facebook.

“We are removing Kaushik Kar from 'Ghum Nei' with immediate effect because he has joined the BJP. And that is enough reason to remove him in the present times. There can be no place for communal elements in a play for the working class,” Palodhi posted on his official Facebook account three days ago in Bengali, PTI reported.

Expressing shock at the “unilateral decision”, Kar described the move to sack him from the play as a manifestation of “Left-wing Fascism”.

“Only armchair elites, giving lectures on communism, having no connection with the masses and ignorant about the history of progressive cultural movement can take such a decision. I am shocked at the unilateral decision,” he said.
