'We Are Creating A System Ensuring Cyber Defence': CDS Gen. Bipin Rawat On China's Cyber Attack Potential

General Rawat asserted China has been able to invest a lot of funds in new technologies, adding the “biggest differential” between the two nations lies in the field of the cyber domain.

New Delhi: Acknowledging there is a capability gap between New Delhi and Beijing as far as technology is concerned, Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat has said China is capable of launching cyber-attacks on India as it has a “lead” on technology.

General Rawat asserted China has been able to invest a lot of funds in new technologies, adding the “biggest differential” between the two nations lies in the field of the cyber domain.

“We know that China is capable of launching cyber-attacks on us and that it can disrupt a large number of our systems. What we are trying to do is to create a system which would ensure cyber defence," PTI quoted General Rawat as saying on Wednesday while speaking at the Vivekananda International Foundation.

He said the aim “should be able to overcome cyber-attacks and continue with our systems either through an alternative or preventive means through firewalls”.

General Rawat informed the Indian Navy is “far ahead” than the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force as far as imbibing technology is concerned, adding the time has come for the military to look towards technology in a big way.

Referring to the evolution of the country’s military, he said India should tell the world to learn from its vast experience in dealing with diverse challenges instead of looking at the western world for security solutions.
