PM Modi To Launch Ujjwala Yojana 2.0 In UP Today; Know All About New Changes

During the event, the PM will also interact with the beneficiaries of the scheme and also make an address to the nation. 

New Delhi: Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi will be launching the Ujjwala 2.0 (Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana-PMUY) scheme at Mahoba district in Uttar Pradesh on August 10, 2021, through video conferencing. 

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will attend the programme from Mahoba a spokesperson told PTI. During the event, the PM will also interact with the beneficiaries of the scheme and also make an address to the nation.

About 1,47,43,862 LPG connections were made available to the poor families of the state the spokesperson told PTI and in the second phase, the families who were left out will be benefited in the second phase, he added. 

Aiming to make cooking gas available to rural households, the petroleum ministry launched the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) on May 1, 2016. The scheme was targeted at five crore women who were below poverty line (BPL) in the first phase. In 2018, seven new categories were added including (SC/ST, PMAY, AAY, Most backward classes, tea garden, forest dwellers, Islands). In the second phase, the target had been expanded to eight crores LPG connections.

During the Union Budget for Financial Year 2021-22, provision for an additional one crore LPG connection under the PMUY scheme was announced. Along with a deposit-free LPG connection, Ujjwala 2.0 will provide the first refill and hotplate free of cost to the beneficiaries. The enrolment procedure will require minimum paperwork and in Ujjwala 2.0, migrants will not be required to submit ration cards or address proof.

In order to be eligible for the scheme, the applicant must be a woman over the age of 18 from a BPL family, she must posses a BPL & Ration card. There should also not be a LPG connection under the name of any family member of the applicant.
