Shocking: National level boxer among 2 held for helping gangster escape
NEW DELHI: Two persons, including a national level boxer, have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the escape of a gangster from police custody in Bahadurgarh last week during which a rifle was also snatched from one of the policemen.
Acting on a tip-off, a Crime Branch team working on the case, on Tuesday arrested Dipak Pahal (20), from Gandhi Nagar at Gannour in Sonipat. He had played a crucial role in the escape of Jitender alias Gogi, said Ravindra Yadav, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch).
Dipak was the lightweight national boxing champion of 2011 and was declared the best boxer of Haryana in 2014. He also represented India in various international boxing competitions, the officer said, adding in 2014 he was booked for breaking the teeth of a fellow boxer.

During interrogation, Dipak admitted that he along with Rohit, Deepak, Gulshan, Sanjay, Mohit and Praveen and three others from Uttar Pradesh, had helped Gogi escape from police custody, Yadav claimed.
Gogi was freed from police custody by 10 men, who came in two cars and stopped a Haryana roadways bus near village Sankhol in Bahadurgarh on July 30, threw chili powder in the eyes of four constables of Delhi Armed Police and also snatched a MP5 rifle from them, the officer said.
The other accused Mohit (21) was arrested by a special team of police from Mukarba Chowk area in north west Delhi yesterday evening. He was involved in robbing one of the cars which was used to free Gogi, Yadav said.
