Rajasthan Reports First Suspected Monkeypox Case, Patient Admitted To Jaipur Govt Hospital

The youth was admitted to a hospital in Kishangarh but was referred to the government hospital in Jaipur on Sunday.

Rajasthan on Monday reported its first suspected case of monkeypox after a youth showed symptoms of the virus. According to news agency PTI,  a 20-year-old, was admitted to a government hospital in Jaipur after exhibiting symptoms of the disease. His samples have been sent to the National Institute of Virology in Pune, said Dr Ajit Singh, Superintendent of Rajasthan University of Health Sciences.

The youth was admitted to a hospital in Kishangarh but was referred to the hospital in Jaipur on Sunday. He has been kept under observation in the special ward created for patients of monkeypox, said Singh, as reported by the news agency.

The youth was suffering from fever for the last five days and developed rashes on his body.

Six confirmed monkeypox cases have been reported in the country so far out of which the first monkeypox patient was discharged on Saturday after testing negative for the viral infection. One monkeypox death has also been registered.

Meanwhile, Delhi reported its second monkeypox case on Monday after a 35-year-old Nigerian man, having no recent history of foreign travel, tested positive for the infection, PTI reported.

After complaining blisters and fever the Nigerian national was admitted to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital, the nodal hospital for treatment of monkeypox in Delhi. 

His samples were sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune after which the reports came out positive.

Two more patients of African origin, have also been admitted to the LNJP Hospital after showing symptoms of the monkeypox virus, reported PTI.
