Rahul's Fiery Attack On Centre: 'Modi Like Ravan, Listens To Just Amit Shah And Adani' — Key Takeaways

During his fiery speech in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi attacked the Modi government over the Manipur violence.

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday launched an all-out attack on BJP as he opened the debate on the no-confidence motion against the BJP-led government brought by the opposition alliance INDIA in Lok Sabha on Wednesday.

Ahead of his speech, there was confusion about whether he would speak today or the Congress would field him for the third day just ahead of PM Modi's reply to the motion. There was also confusion since he is headed to Rajasthan for a rally today.

The Congress MP returned to the Lok Sabha on Monday after his membership was restored following the Supreme Court staying his conviction in a defamation case over his "Modi surname" remark. During his fiery speech in the Lok Sabha, Gandhi attacked the Modi government over the Manipur violence.

Key Takeaways From Rahul Gandhi's Speech In Lok Sabha:

  • Gandhi had begun his speech in Lok Sabha, saying that the government doesn't have to fear him as he wouldn't speak against the Gautam Adani group. Gandhi said: "I won't speak against Adani. So, you don't have to be scared. Dariye mat. Just Relax."

  • He thanked Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla for reinstating him as a member. "Speaker Sir, first of all, I would like to thank you for reinstating me as an MP of the Lok Sabha. When I spoke the last time, perhaps I caused you trouble because I focussed on Adani. Today, my friends in BJP need not be scared because my speech today is not on Adani."

  • Gandhi said that he won't be too hard on the government in his speech. "Ek do gole zaroor marunga, magar itna nahi. [Will fire one or two shots. But not too many]."

  • "You are putting the entire country in flames. First, it was Manipur, now it is Haryana. You want to burn the whole country," Gandhi said in his no-trust vote speech in Lok Sabha.
  • Gandhi took a dig at PM Modi: "PM Modi doesn't listen to India's voice... Raavan used to listen to just two persons — Meghnad and Kumbhakarna. Similarly, PM Modi listens to only Amit Shah and [Gautam] Adani."

  • Rahul Gandhi ended his no-confidence motion debate speech by saying, "Lanka was not burnt by Hanuman. It was gutted by Raavan's vanity."

(Note: This report has been updated as parts of Rahul Gandhi’s Wednesday speech in Parliament were expunged.)
