Prashant Kishore To Join Congress? Speculations Rife As He Meets Gandhis

According to reports, Prashant Kishor asked for an appointment during a virtual meeting with Congress interim chief Sonia Gandhi, in presence of Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and KC Venugopal.

New Delhi: Several reports are making rounds claiming that poll strategist Prashant Kishor may join India's main opposition party. The speculations intensified after Kishor held discussions with Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra at Rahul Gandhi's residence on Tuesday.

Hinting more on the same, Congress sources told news agency ANI that Prashant Kishor had asked for an appointment during a virtual meeting with Congress interim chief Sonia Gandhi, in presence of Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and KC Venugopal.

ANI reported that the meeting lasted about 1 hour. There was no talk about the Punjab Congress controversy, though Prashant Kishor discussed the prospects of Congress in the upcoming assembly elections.

As claimed by the news agency, the sources asserted that there was no discussion about pushing Sharad Pawar for president post from UPA.

Sources further informed that there is no change in the post of Leader of Congress in the Lok Sabha party at present. In this session, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury will remain the Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha.

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had last week met Kishor at the Kapurthala House in Delhi. The meeting took place amid a feud between the Punjab Chief Minister and Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu.

Earlier this year, Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh had appointed poll strategist Prashant Kishor as his principal advisor. The development was assumed to be significant as assembly polls are due early next year.

In the past, Kishor has been the brain behind Punjab Congress programmes like “Coffee with Captain” and “Punjab Da Captain” to drum up support for the party during the last assembly polls.
