Pranab Mukherjee, former President of India and stalwart of Indian politics, breathed his last on Monday (August 31). He was 84. The veteran politician was found to be coronavirus positive when he went to Army Hospital on Monday for another procedure. At the hospital, he underwent surgery for a blood clot in the brain.

Earlier in the day, the Army Hospital at the Delhi Cantonment said that Pranab Mukherjee's medical condition has declined since yesterday, and he continues to be in a deep coma and on ventilator support.
"There is a decline in the medical condition of Pranab Mukherjee since yesterday. He is in septic shock due to his lung infection and is being managed by a team of specialists. He continues to be in a deep coma and on ventilator support," the Army's Research and Referral Hospital said in a statement.
His son Abhijit Mukherjee, who has been tweeting regular updates on his health informed about the former president's demise.
Pranab Mukherjee, 84, was on ventilator support. Last week, he developed a lung infection.
He was admitted to the hospital on August 10 and had surgery the same day for the removal of a clot in the brain. He had tested positive for COVID-19 in the hospital. "On a visit to the hospital for a separate procedure, I have tested positive for COVID-19 today. I request the people who came in contact with me in the last week, to please self-isolate and get tested for COVID-19," he had posted.
He developed a lung infection and renal dysfunction over the past few days, according to doctors.
Pranab Mukherjee worked under three Prime Ministers – Indira Gandhi, Narasimha Rao, and Dr. Manmohan Singh
He was Minister of Finance between 2009 and 2012, Minister of Defence (2004-2006), Minister of External Affairs (2006-2009).
Pranab da is survived by his 3 children. Sharmistha Mukherjee, Abhijit Mukherjee, and Indrajit Mukherjee.
