‘No Expectations’: Farooq Abdullah On Rajnath’s J&K Visit After Poonch Terror Attack

Defence minister Rajnath Singh visited Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district after terror attack in Poonch.

National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Wednesday said he has no expectations from Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of the death of three civilians in the valley. However, Abdullah hoped that such incidents will not be repeated in Poonch again.

"I have no expectations from his visit. Can he bring back the dead? Does he have that power? But he can do this much that such injustice is not repeated," Abdullah told reporters in Kulgam, 80 kilometres from Srinagar, reported PTI.

The NC chief said that Singh was visiting because “because our people were killed” and that the minister will “apply balm on the wounds of the affected families.”

Three civilians were found dead after they were picked up by the Army for questioning following a terrorist ambush on two Army vehicles in Poonch last Thursday killing four soldiers.

On Wednesday, the Defence Minister reached Rajouri to visit ground zero along with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Army chief Manoj Pande to review the security situation following the terror attack on the Army vehicles.

Addressing troops in the border district of Rajouri, Singh lauded them for their bravery saying  he had full faith that the army will wipe out terrorism from the soil of Jammu and Kashmir.

"I believe in your bravery and steadfastness … Terrorism should be finished from Jammu and Kashmir and you need to move forward with this commitment. I have full faith that you will achieve victory," Singh said.

Abdullah, who was speaking to reporters in Kulgam on Wednesday, was asked about his remarks on Kashmir turning into Gaza, to which he said: “What will happen if the two countries do not find a way for friendly relations? We have terrorism. China is also sitting over our heads. If there is a war here, where will the bombs fall? Will the bombs explode in the air or fall on us?"
