PM Modi to launch campaign on Quit India Movement anniversary today

Bhopal: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch 'Azadi-70, Yaad Karo Kurbani' campaign on Tuesday in Bhabhra, birth place of revolutionary leader Chandrashekhar Azad, in Madhya Pradesh's Alirajpur district on the anniversary of the Quit India Movement. "August 9 is a historic day in India's freedom struggle as it reminds us of the seriousness of the country's hardship and also about the long series of sacrifices made by the revolutionary leaders," BJP's state general secretary Arvind Bhadoria told PTI on Monday. "It is a matter of happiness that the Prime Minister is launching the campaign 'Azadi-70, Yaad Karo Kurbani' from the birth place of Azad, Bhabhra, in Alirajpur district on the occasion," he said. Under the campaign from August 9 to 14, Union ministers will visit places associated with Indian freedom struggle, especially the birth places of martyred leaders. "Nearly two lakh people, mostly tribals are expected to take part in the meeting to be addressed by the Prime Minister for which elaborate arrangements are being made," Bhadoria said. Besides, from August 16-22 various programmes in the memory of freedom struggle, like Tiranga Yatra, candle march and Rakshabandhan festival, would be organised. The party workers are knocking on the doors of people in every division to make the event a grand success, he said. Meanwhile, Congress MP from Ratlam-Jhabua seat, Kantilal Bhuria alleged in a statement that in the name organising Prime Minister's programme, BJP has given it a saffron colour by overlooking Congress' contribution in the freedom struggle. He said tribals were forced to migrate from the area due to closure of schemes like MNREGA, which resulted in a rise in unemployment in the area, but the government was not doing anything. Bhuria also reminded Modi that before he became Prime Minister, he had promised to start railway line work in Jhabua but it proved to be a hollow promise. The condition of roads, especially National Highway 59, is worse and despite repeated assurances, nothing is happening, he said.
