'Looting Of Poor Will Stop': PM Modi Lauds Waqf Amendment Act In Hisar

During an address in Hisar, Haryana PM Modi said that several hectares of land are under the Waqf.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that several “hectares of land in under the Waqf board” and that the Waqf (Amendment) Act would have benefitted the “needy women & children”. He further added that if it was used with “honesty, my Muslim youngsters wouldn’t have had to make a living by fixing cycle punctures.”

PM Modi was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of Hisar Airport in Haryana. He said that instead, the Waqf properties are befitting “land mafia” and that land mafia was looting lands which belong to Dalit, backward sections and widows.

“The looting of the poor will stop after these changes to the Waqf law”.

“Under the new Waqf law, land or property belonging to tribals cannot be touched by the Waqf Board. Poor Muslims and Pasmanda Muslims will get their rights. This is real social justice," he further said.

He slammed the Congress party for its stand against the Waqf Act, saying it was only to pander to Muslim fundamentalists and that its resistance is evidence of that.

He said the Opposition party made the Constitution a tool for gaining power. That during the Emergency, they killed the spirit of Constitution “so that they could retain power”.

"The Constitution talks about a secular civil code, but Congress never implemented it. Today, a uniform civil code has been implemented in Uttarakhand. Unfortunately, Congress is opposing this. Congress never bothered to check if the benefits of reservation reached SC/ST and OBC communities," the PM Modi added.

"We must never forget what the Congress did to Babasaheb Ambedkar. While he was alive, the party insulted him repeatedly. They made him lose elections twice. Congress wanted to uproot him; they conspired to keep him out of the system. After his death, they even tried to erase his memory. Babasaheb stood for equality, but Congress spread the virus of vote-bank politics throughout the country," he said.

The Prime Minister stated that Dr Ambedkar had clearly rejected the idea of reservation based on religious grounds.

"Congress's appeasement politics has harmed the Muslims too. Congress has only made some fundamentalists happy. The rest of the society remained uneducated and poor. The biggest proof of this wrong approach is in the Waqf law," he said.

The Prime Minister accused the Congress of making arbitrary amendments to the Waqf law for political gain, claiming that these changes undermined the spirit of the Constitution. He questioned the Congress’s commitment to inclusivity by asking why it doesn’t have a Muslim as its national president or reserve 50 per cent of its election tickets for Muslim candidates.

"If they win, they would put forward their views. But no, they wouldn’t give it up. They will snatch the rights of citizens. Their intention was never to do anything good for anyone," he said.
