Noida Twin Towers Turn To Dust Following Controlled Explosion, Major Dust Cloud Seen - WATCH

Noida CEO Ritu Maheshwari said that gas and electricity supply will be restored soon and evacuated residents from nearby buildings can return back to their homes by 6:30 pm today.

New Delhi: The Supertech Twin Tower, Apex and Ceyan, in Noida's Sector 93A was razed to rubble in faction of seconds on Sunday afternoon amid major cloud dust. The 100-metre tall skyscraper borne out of corruption was demolished using the waterfall implosion technique by Mumbai-based Edifice Engineering tasked with safely pulling down the structures, the tallest buildings yet in the country to be detonated. Following Supreme Court's order that had found its construction within the Emerald Court Society premises in violation of norms, the twin towers, taller than Qutub Minar, were brought down using 3,700 kilograms of explosives plant all over the building.

Noida Commissioner of Police, Alok Kumar said that the execution was "largely as per planned ans experts are assessing the situation".

As per Noida CEO, Ritu Maheshwari, most of the debris fell towards inside the now-demolished building with some of it falling towards ATS Village and the main road, adding that gas and electricity supply will be restored soon and evacuated residents from nearby buildings can return back to their homes by 6:30 pm today.

"There is broadly no damage to any nearby buildings," she added.

Preparations were completed near the twin towers, water tankers were installed at different spots to control the dust that will fly after the tower is grounded.

Sweeping machines arrived to help in cleaning the dust and controlling the pollution.

The structures were demolished among heavy deployment of police force. 500 police personnel were deployed around the area which was put out of bounds for civilians. Around 5,000 residents of nearby Emerald Court and ATS Village societies were evacuated while also removing nearly 3,000 vehicles and taking away 150-200 pets, including cats and dogs, with them for the day.

Noida traffic police issued a traffic advisory ahead of the demolition with some roads completely restricted while some other routes have been diverted. The Noida-Greater Noida Expressway was closed at 2:15 pm while restricted and diverted routes were updated on Google Maps.

The city remained no-fly zone for drones and air space in one nautical mile radius above the blast was breifly closed for flights during the demolition, as per Noida Authority.

Only six persons — Edifice Engineering's project manager Mayur Mehta, three foreign experts, Indian blaster Chetan Dutta, a police officer — were present at the site during demolition.

An advisory has been issued by the Gautam Buddh Nagar Chief Medical Officer mentioning signs of discomfort post-demolition and listing do's and dont's after the bulddozing of the building. These signs may include body aches, sensations in the eyes, nose, or face, and irregular heartbeat among others.
