No scrapped notes for fuel from midnight, toll collection to resume: 10 things to remember

New Delhi: The collection of toll at all toll plazas on national highways across the country will resume from midnight, with the government taking several steps to ensure a smooth movement of traffic.
  1. All toll plazas have been equipped with adequate numbers of swipe machines through which people can make payments using their credit or debit cards.
  2. Toll fee can also be paid through prepaid instruments and electronic wallets.
  3. The government is also encouraging people to buy FASTags introduced by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
  4. The FASTags can be stuck on to the windshield of the vehicle, and toll payments are made directly from the prepaid account linked to it.
  5. The highway users are being requested to carry adequate change with them to avoid delay.
  6. The old 500 rupee notes will be accepted till the midnight of December 15, but this will only be for purchasing FASTags and for making toll payments of more than Rs 200.
  7. Petrol, diesel and gas outlets of state-run companies will stop accepting the banned high-value currency from Saturday according to a Finance Ministry notification here.
  8. This deadline for the old Rs 500 notes, which applies also for the purchase of airline tickets, was earlier December 15.
  9. The old note will continue to be accepted for the other utility bill payments, at railway ticketing counters and at counters of government or public sector undertaking buses for purchase of bus tickets till December 15, the statement said.
  10. The supply of LPG, or cooking gas, also continues to be in the exempted category for the purpose of payment through old Rs 500 bank notes, it added.
