MHA Designates JeM's Ali Kashif Jan, Pathankot Attack Accused, As Terrorist Under UAPA

"Jan was the handler of the Pathankot air force station terror attack in India," the ministry said.

New Delhi: Ali Kashif Jan of Jaish-e-Mohammed, who was engaged in the January 2016 Pathankot air force station terror assault, has been declared a terrorist by the Centre under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act of 1967.

According to the notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Jan, a resident of Charsadda in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, is involved in terrorism and serves as the operational commander and a member of the core planning committee of the terrorist organisation Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).

"Jan was the handler of the Pathankot air force station terror attack in India," the ministry said.

On the intervening night of January 1-2, a highly armed group of terrorists slipped in from across the border and assaulted the Pathankot airbase. Seven security personnel were murdered in the incident, and four terrorists were also slain.

According to the MHA, the JeM terrorist is charged with a number of crimes recorded and being probed by the National Investigation Agency, including the Pathankot air force station terror attack, and he has been designated a proclaimed criminal in these instances.

Under the UAPA Act, JeM is designated as a terrorist organisation.

It also stated that Jan continues to operate from JeM launching detachments in Pakistan and is involved in the recruiting of cadres for their training as well as the coordination of assault plans toward Indian targets.

According to the statement from the Union Home Ministry, he was served with red corner notifications.

According to the Central Government, Jan is involved in terrorism and should be designated as a terrorist under the Terrorism Act.

"Mohiuddin Aurangzeb Alamgir has been involved in the Pulwama Central Reserve Police Force Convoy attack of 2019. He is involved in anti-India terror activities on behalf of Jaish-e-Mohammad. He looks after JeM's fund collection activities from Pakistani nationals and routing the said fund to Kashmir in India," the notification read.
